There is a reason Maui remains one of the most sought-after destinations for weddings in Hawaii. The island offers dramatic coastlines, beautiful beaches, lush Upcountry landscapes and some of the most celebrated resorts in the state.
But as a Hawaii wedding planner, I look at a venue through a different lens than simply asking whether it has a beautiful view.
How easy will it be for guests to get there? What does the property offer for a rain plan? Can we host multiple events throughout the wedding weekend? What will need to be brought in from outside vendors? And perhaps most importantly, how does choosing Maui affect the overall wedding budget?
If you're considering a destination wedding in Maui, these are some of the hotels and resorts I recommend exploring.
Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea
For couples looking for a full-service resort experience, Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is one of the first properties I would consider.
Its location directly along Wailea Beach gives guests the quintessential Maui resort experience while keeping accommodations, dining, pools, spa and wedding events together in one place.
The property offers several different event settings, including the expansive Oceanfront Lawn, Plumeria Point, Plumeria Garden and indoor ballroom options. Four Seasons also follows a one-wedding-per-day approach, which is a significant benefit for couples who value privacy and don't want to feel like one of several weddings moving through a resort at the same time.
One of the biggest advantages of a property like Four Seasons is the ability to build an entire wedding weekend around the resort rather than asking guests to constantly travel between locations.
Best for:
Couples prioritizing exceptional service, guest experience and a true luxury resort wedding in Wailea.
Hana-Maui Resort
For something completely different from the traditional Wailea resort experience, Hana-Maui Resort is one of Maui's most distinctive wedding settings.
Hāna feels removed from the rest of the island in the best possible way. It is lush, quiet and incredibly scenic, and a wedding here naturally feels more like a destination retreat than a single-day event.
The resort offers several beautiful wedding locations overlooking the dramatic East Maui landscape.
The biggest consideration here is logistics.
Hāna is remote. Getting guests, vendors and specialty items into the area requires considerably more planning than hosting a wedding in Wailea or Kā'anapali.
I wouldn't consider that a negative, but couples should understand it before falling in love with the location. For the right wedding, that sense of isolation is exactly what makes Hāna so special.
Hāna is personally my favorite location in all of Maui. Between its incredible natural beauty, black sand beaches, lush landscape and unmistakable character, this part of the island feels completely different from the larger resort areas and offers an experience that is truly special.
Best for:
Couples who want an immersive, nature-filled wedding weekend and are comfortable prioritizing experience and setting over convenience.
Lumeria Maui
Lumeria is the exception to the traditional hotel and resort venues on this list because it offers something very different.
Located near Makawao, Lumeria is surrounded by lush Upcountry Maui rather than the large beachfront resorts of Wailea and West Maui.
The atmosphere is peaceful, intimate and wellness-focused, making it particularly compelling for couples who envision their wedding as a retreat where guests spend meaningful time together.
Yoga, wellness experiences, tropical gardens and the quieter Upcountry environment can all become part of the wedding weekend.
Because Lumeria operates differently from a conventional large wedding resort, I recommend confirming event parameters, accommodations, food and beverage requirements and outside vendor policies early in the planning process.
Lumeria also lends itself perfectly to a multi-day wedding celebration. With accommodations, wellness experiences and gathering spaces all centered around the property, couples can create a full wedding weekend where guests have time to connect, relax and enjoy Maui together rather than simply arriving for the wedding day.
Best for:
Intimate celebrations, wellness-focused wedding weekends and couples who want a quieter Maui experience away from the major resort areas.
Hotel Wailea
Hotel Wailea is an excellent option for couples who want the service and amenities of a hotel without the scale of Maui's largest beachfront resorts.
The adults-only property sits above the coastline rather than directly on the beach, creating beautiful ocean views and a more secluded atmosphere.
Its smaller scale can make a destination wedding feel much more intimate, particularly when compared with a large resort where your guests may be sharing the property with hundreds of other travelers.
The adults-only environment is also something couples need to consider carefully. For a child-free wedding, it can be a huge advantage. For couples expecting a large number of families with children, it may not be the right fit.
We especially adore Hotel Wailea's mid-century touches and thoughtful updates, which give the property so much more character than a traditional resort. It feels polished and elevated while still maintaining a distinct sense of place and personality.
Best for:
Intimate, adults-only destination weddings and couples who want privacy and boutique-hotel character while remaining close to Wailea.
Wailea Beach Resort
Wailea Beach Resort is another strong choice for destination weddings where convenience and guest experience are priorities.
The resort has a prime location in Wailea and offers multiple outdoor and indoor event spaces, which is particularly helpful when planning a larger celebration or multiple wedding-weekend events.
For destination weddings, I always think beyond the ceremony and reception. Where are guests staying? Can we host a welcome event nearby? Do guests need transportation every time they attend something?
Keeping accommodations and several events at the same resort can dramatically simplify those logistics.
Best for:
Destination weddings where guest convenience, resort amenities and multiple event spaces are priorities.
The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua
Kapalua offers a completely different Maui experience from Wailea.
The landscape is greener and more dramatic, and the area tends to feel quieter and more removed from Maui's busier resort corridors.
The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua offers outdoor wedding settings as well as substantial indoor event space, giving couples flexibility when it comes to guest count, weather planning and wedding-weekend events.
It's particularly appealing for couples who want guests to settle into the resort and experience several days together rather than treating Maui simply as the backdrop for the wedding day.
Kapalua is also one of my personal favorite places to snorkel in all of Hawaii. Every time I've been in the water here, I've seen an incredible amount of marine life, including honu, the Hawaiian green sea turtles. It's one of those experiences I love being able to recommend to wedding guests who want to actually enjoy the destination beyond the wedding events.
Best for:
Larger destination weddings, multi-day celebrations and couples who prefer Kapalua's quieter, nature-forward atmosphere.
Something Couples Should Know About Maui Wedding Budgets
One of the most important conversations I have with couples considering Maui is about budget.
In my experience planning weddings throughout Hawaii, Maui weddings can often cost approximately 20–30% more than comparable celebrations on neighboring islands.
That doesn't mean Maui isn't worth it. It means the budget should be built around Maui from the beginning.
Venue pricing is only one component. Depending on the wedding, vendor travel, accommodations, transportation, rentals, staffing, delivery and production can all increase the overall investment.
This is particularly important if you're comparing a Maui wedding proposal directly with one from Oahu or the Big Island. The same guest count and overall design vision do not necessarily translate into the same final budget.
If Maui is the island you love, I recommend budgeting accordingly rather than choosing Maui first and trying to force a neighboring-island budget onto it afterward.
Which Part of Maui Is Right for Your Wedding?
Choosing a venue also means choosing the experience your guests will have.
Wailea offers convenience, beautiful beaches and a concentration of high-end resorts and restaurants.
Kapalua feels greener, quieter and more secluded.
Hāna is an experience unto itself and works particularly well when the journey and remoteness are intentionally part of the wedding weekend.
Upcountry Maui offers an entirely different landscape and atmosphere, particularly for couples drawn to places like Lumeria.
There isn't one area that is universally better. The right choice depends on your guest count, budget and what you want the weekend to feel like.
Planning a Destination Wedding in Maui
The best Maui wedding venue isn't necessarily the most expensive property or the one with the most dramatic ceremony view.
It's the venue that supports the complete experience you're trying to create.
For some couples, that's Four Seasons in Wailea with everything their guests could need on property. For others, it's several quiet days together in Hāna, a wellness-focused gathering at Lumeria or a wedding weekend overlooking the ocean from Kapalua.
At Lifestyle Maven Events, we help couples evaluate Maui venues based on the entire picture: budget, guest experience, logistics, design possibilities and the events surrounding the wedding day.
